The small-Péclet-number approximation in stellar radiative zones

چکیده

We present an asymptotic form of the Boussinesq equations in the limit of small Péclet numbers i.e. when the time scale of motions is much larger than the time scale of thermal diffusion. We find that, in this limit, the effects of thermal diffusion and stable stratification combine in a single physical process. This process is an anisotropic dissipation (not effective for horizontal motions) which acts primarily on large scale motions. The small-Péclet-number approximation presents also the great practical interest to avoid the numerical difficulty induced by the huge separation between the diffusive and dynamical time scales. The relevance of this approximation to study the flow dynamics within the stellar radiative zones is considered.

On the coupling between helium settling and rotation-induced mixing in stellar radiative zones: I- Analytical approach

In the presence of rotation-induced mixing, element diffusion still occurs in stellar radiative zones, although at a slower rate than in the case of a complete stability of the stellar gas. As a consequence, helium settling leads to vertical μ-gradients which, due to the meridional circulation, turn into horizontal fluctuations. Up to now, the feed-back effect of this process on the rotation-in...

Helioseismology, Neutrinos and Radiative Zones

The solar interior has been scrutinized by two different and independent probes during the last twenty years with important revisions of the solar model, including a recent heavy element abundance revision. Today, we get a quantitatively coherent picture (even incomplete) of the solar (stellar) radiative zones. In this review, we recall the clues for solar gravitational settling definitively es...

The Geometry of Karbandi in Persian Architecture; Response to the Challenges of Conventional and Stellar Karbandi

Karbandi is one of the original and ancient arched elements in Persian architecture which is formed based on a network with harmonic geometry and in addition to architectural function, it also has structural behavior. However, there are ambiguities about the geometry of this architectural element that should be addressed with targeted research. One of these ambiguities is to determine how the g...

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

Parallel Implementation of the PHOENIX Generalized Stellar Atmosphere Program . II : Wavelength Parallelization

We describe an important addition to the parallel implementation of our generalized NLTE stellar atmosphere and radiative transfer computer program PHOENIX. In a previous paper in this series we described data and task parallel algorithms we have developed for radiative transfer, spectral line opacity, and NLTE opacity and rate calculations. These algorithms divided the work spatially or by spe...
